Isaac is given two sons, Jacob and Esau. These two brothers were always opposed to each other both personality wise and physically. Also the parents were divided as Isaac loved Esau but Rebekah loved Jacob. Before they were born it was decreed that even though Esau was the firstborn, it would be Jacob that would be used to continue God’s plan of salvation. Esau has already served his birthright to Jacob, now Isaac is looking to bless Esau but Jacob will once again figure out how to swoop in and steal it too.
Question: Have you ever tricked anyone into doing anything?
In the book, “Adventures of Tom Sawyer”, there is a chapter in which Tom has to paint a fence white. Tom doesn’t want to waste his day painting the fence white so he figures out a way to get out of it. As one of the kids comes down the street, at first the kid makes fun of the fact that Tom is stuck painting but Tom says that he actually feels bad for the kid. Tom tells him that painting the fence is the most fun he has ever had. The kid is finally convinced by Tom’s sells pitch and starts to paint the fence. Pretty soon Tom has convinced several kids to do his work and he is free to go enjoy his day.
Today we are going to see deception in every person in this family. Each person sets out to deceive someone else in the family. All this comes from the fact that they had forgotten God and each want to do things their own way. Read on »

This is the second famine we hear about and it is even mentioned in verse one that this would be the second famine that had happened. For someone who did not own any property, this was a big deal. Isaac was a nomad and as a nomad he would move to wherever it would be best for him, so he does just that. Isaac heads south to find a place where he can find somewhere that would provide food and water for his household and animals. Egypt was a default place to go because even during times of famine, the nile would provide the land with plenty of water.

“And the Lord said to her, ‘Two nations are in your womb, and two peoples from within you shall be divided; the one shall be stronger than the other, the older shall serve the younger.’” v 23
Abraham has passed away and left everything to Isaac. Isaac has married Rebekah but not everything is perfect. Rebekah is barren and it will be a test for Isaac on how much he trusts God’s plan.
Question: Have you ever had to wait to open a present you know you are getting?
Sometimes as I have grown up, my parents have been a little bit more open with what my presents were going to be for Christmas. This last year I really wanted this backpack. It was a backpack that was like a hiking back pack but it was designed for camera stuff. Now I knew I was going to get it but my parents wouldn’t let me have it till Christmas. So I had to wait, and it is always waiting that gets you. It always seems like it goes on forever till that day comes and the more you want something the worse it is. Isaac also probably felt like this as he knew God was going to provide for him but he would have to wait a long time. Read on »
“and said, Blessed be the Lord, the God of my master Abraham, who has not forsaken his steadfast love and his faithfulness toward my master. As for me, the Lord has led me in the way to the house of my master’s kinsmen.”
Abraham has been through many trials. He has had many successes and many failures but it all came down to the final test involving his son. He showed that he had enough faith in God that even if he killed his son and burned him as a sacrifice, that God would bring him back from the dead. Now at the end of his life, Abraham makes final preparations that will continue to progress God’s plan of salvation for mankind.
Question: Have you prepared for your future?
As a junior higher, I know that I had no clue what I was going to do. I just never had that mentality to say, this is what I want to be. I had many interests, I liked video games and had even learned how to program some basic ones. I liked playing the violin. I liked computers and website stuff. My friend Alex was starting to get into video and I started to join him. Now, I have to think about these things. I need to make clear goals of where I want to go because I’m now married and have more than me to worry about. I need to make sure that I have at least some kind of plan for future events. One of those things is that I’m putting $50 dollars away a month into what is called a “mutual fund”. It is a savings account that puts your money into stocks so that you can get a greater return. I found a calculator online that said that if I continue to do this, when I turn 65 I’ll have 150,000 dollars saved up. Not too bad. The reason I do this is so that if me and Rachel live that long, we will now have some money that we can live off of and not have to worry about working. Of course, I don’t even know where or what I’ll be doing in a year from now but it is good to be ready in case. Here we will see that Abraham makes final plans for the future, he ties up the last loose ends as his life comes to a close.

Decided to come back and dust off this old blog of mine. I have a new website up that I’m using kind of as a portfolio resume type of thing. You can check it out here at shelbeyhunt.info. I know, .info is kind of different but I like it. I mean the website is to give info about me so it fits right? Read on »
So for the last week and a half I have been down in Ecuador. What a great time to not only get to experience a lot of new things but get some time to be with God. I am specifically at a Christian camp called Hacienda El Refugio. I came down here to help them make a promo video for the camp and visit the Scholls, missionaries and family friends. It’s been a great time. I will post some of the finished products soon.
So I found this really cool app called Flutter. It uses your built in webcam to read simple hand gestures so you can control your different music apps without touching the computer. They say they are working on more features as right now all you can is play/pause, and go to the next/previous song. I find it extremely helpful as Spotify doesn’t seem to respond to the control keys on the keyboard. Now instead of switching over to it just to pause or get to the next song I just raise my hand! You can check out flutter at their website.
I’ve been very busy this week. Next week I am heading off to Ecuador to go and film some promotional videos for a camp that my church supports down there. I’m very excited but the consequences are that I know have to make sure I have everything ready for the next two weeks ahead of time. As such, there are many things to get done. One of them was to make a dodgeball rules video. I think it is one of my favorite videos I have ever made.
So today I made a trip with my parents up to Bakersfield to meet up with my brother who is in Cali for just a few days. It was really nice to see him as he lives over in Tennessee. He works for various musical artists when they go on tour and that was what brought him out here. He’s a very good big brother and I am thankful to have him.
So today I taught Joshua 5 in Junior High. At this point in the book of Joshua, the Israelites have just crossed the Jordan into the land of Canaan. Before they can go and conquer they must make some final preparations. They did not have to train men, make weapons, or anything else that you would normally think would go into preparing to take over a great deal of land. No, these soon to be conquerors found themselves making spiritual preparations as it would be God who lead them into battle, and they needed to be on the good side of their General. Read on »
